Smoke from Northern California Fires

This is a picture I took this morning from the deck of my house. There are fires ringing Clear Lake and we’re pretty much relegated to staying indoors. It’s very smoky, and my eyes are burning. Cobb has been evacuated (a community about 10 miles away), though we appear to be safe at this time.

However, it does make for a very beautiful sunrise!

Since I moved to southern Australia in 2005, I have been witness to some of the incredibe fires they have in the heat of this country. Similar to how Americans will assist Canadians (and vice versa) with large fires, New Zealand firefighters will come to the assistance of Australia during times of need. If you experience widespread environmental damage or witness the results, you ahve a completely different appreciation for the power of nature and things you don’t control. At the same time, you can also increase appreciation for those things you are responsible for in your own life, and that includes savoring each moment, no matter where you are or what your circumstances.
